The Artist Han Yuchen’s Acknowledgments on the Opening Ceremony of “Han Yuchen Oil Painting and Western Oil Painting Exhibition”

Release Time:2018-03-23 16:21:07

Standing in this grand and magnificent National Museum, and facing with so many celebrities and distinguished guests who participated in the opening ceremony of my painting exhibition, I feel so excited and all sorts of feelings come into my mind !

Affected by my family, I have developed a love for calligraphy and painting since childhood. Due to the social circumstances (the Cultural Revolution) in the incredible year 1968, my family encountered misfortune . At my age of 14, I had the painful experience of suffering criticism, confessing sins and being paraded through the streets. Under the persecution of such an environment, my mind suddenly grew up from an innocent teenager to a matured person. I have decided to master a special skill - paintings and drawing pictures, in order to survive in the future society.

This kind of motivation have prompted me to write sketches and to facsimile picture-story books every day. Later I went to the factory advocacy team to help. Two years later, I was able to draw huge portraits of great men.

The development of things was not unexpected. In 1970, when I started to work, I was a loader that is painfulandtiring. But I was transferred to the Political Department because I was good at drawing. In the later political movements and social changes, the specialty of drawing had been my talisman and auspicious tree. Also because of painting, I was transferred to the commercial units and continued to work on painting.

In my way of being engaged in art, I got the good graces as well as the cruelty from the goddess of fate.

Good graces: When I participated in the city's art creative study class in 1972, I was honored to have three months of professional training under the guidance of the two teachers from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Li Hua and Su Gaoli. From which I learned what sketches and oil paintings sketching are. In 1974, I took my oil painting to Beijing to consult Mr. Liang Yulong and received his advice. In 1978, the famous painter Zhang Wenxin came to Handan to create the painting "The Great Taihang Mountains” and I was the assistant and model for him. From then on, our valuable relationship of being teacher and student has been stretched for nearly 40 years.

Cruelty: In that particular era (the Cultural Revolution Period), I missed the chance to be admitted into China Central Academy of Fine Arts twice because of political reasons that everybody knows. The first time was in 1976, Su Gaoli came to Handan to recruit students. At that time I was the only candidate recommended by Handan Culture Museum. And my test score ranked first in the whole province. However, but I didn’t pass the political review due to my family political background. So the opportunity was lost. The second time was in 1977 when the Central People's Broadcasting Station broadcasted the information of resumption of the College Entrance Examination, I tried so hard to learn by myself for 3 months, often studying through the nigh. I got admitted through my effort even when I only had the elementary school educational background. Unfortunately due to the same reason, I missed the chance again.

In order to survive, I have been working in the commercial market since then. But I still yearn for art day and night. In my spare time, I practice calligraphy and photography, I read album of painting, and go abroad to visit galleries and museums which has become a compulsory subject to me. I am in the business market but my heart will always be in love with art.

I do have reasons for choosing Tibetan style as the theme of creation. In 1972, Mr. Su led us to visit Dong Xiwen’s studio in Beijing and I was strongly shocked when I saw his Tibetan oil painting sketch. In 1977, I was once again shocked by watching Chen Danqing's oil painting “Tears Trickling Down the Full Abundant HarvestField” at the National Art Museum of China. Going to Tibet and painting Tibet has become my dream.

In 2006, I stepped onto the land of Tibet for the first time. I then understood what was the grand beauty of the world and what was the purity among people through the magnificent beauty of the snow-capped mountains and the grand grassland under the blue sky, through the pure and sincere of the local people. It is where human nature lies, and it is the glory of the human souls.

It means hardship and taking risks to set creative direction to Tibet. I have been through landslides, mudslides, colds and fevers, and also have the experience of kissing with the god of death during dozens of trips to Tibet.

It was in 2011, at an altitude of more than 5,000 meters in Shuanghu Lake of Tibet. I saw nobody for a while, suddenly I saw a group of yaks. I was so excited that I quickly got out of the car. Just because I walked a few steps faster, and I didn't take deep breath at the time of taking pictures, I suddenly felt dizzy and tightness in chest and I suffer from a lung condition that compromises my breathing. The experience of multiple visits to Tibet tells me: “I may lose my life here." And also based on experiences in Tibet, it was clear that I could only rely on self-saving in such a situation when nobody is around. So I went back to the car and slowly sat down and pushed on the heart meridian on the left wrist with my right hand. People have souls. It reminded me of the scene that Shu Qin called Shi Guangrong in the TV drama series “The Years Of BurningPassions”. So I constantly called out to himself: “Han Yuchen! Han Yuchen! You can’t die, you have to hold on. So many brothers come with you to Tibet, you have to bring them back. Han Yuchen! Han Yuchen! You can't die! More than 20,000 employees of Sunshine Group need you to lead them to continue their business. Han Yuchen! Han Yuchen! You can't die! Your parents, wife and children also need you to take care of them. "Having been like this for more than half an hour, my chest tightness weakened, my heart rate calmed down, and my dissociative soul returned. This is an experience I will never forget.

God loves me enough that I am personally given a compensation to this experience. The next morning in Dongcuo Township of Ngari Prefecture, I saw the scene in my oil painting “Shepherdess.” A young girl wearing a net bag rushed to the ranch with hundreds of sheep, filled with dust. All these formed a natural oil painting. A few months later this painting was finished. After this work was awarded in France, many media asked me how I painted it. I said it was created at the cost of life.

Influencing by art of painting for many years, I know that art can help humanity, education, and infect people. So when my company has reached to a certain scale, I began the collection of European oil paintings and founded the museum. The purpose is to educate more people to generate love for art and to search for purity in heart like I do through the high-quality collections.

Time flies (Time passes quickly like a white pony's shadow across a crevice).. I started to learn oil painting in 1968. It has been nearly 50 years within a brief span of time. I could be called a veteran in the art world; of course, I still could be lost to the old gentlemen on the stage. Because of the entrepreneurship I had to pause (interrupt) drawing for many years. It is Tibet that has rekindled my passion for creation of painting. Nine years ago, I took up my painting brush again. Every day except for my normal work, I drove myself to painting. I put so much effort that I had to grab back the lost time. In the past nine years, I painted nearly 100 paintings, photographed nearly ten thousand photos, and wrote hundreds of poems. I want to report to the society and people in form of my creation. This is also the feeling of a Chinese artist.

My paintings exhibition was such a success here, first of all, I would like to thank Mr. Lyu, the director of the National Museum of Art, for his effort. It takes one year from the intention of this exhibition to his guidance in the exhibition hall yesterday. I want to thank the support of Mr. Lian Ji, president of the Chinese Academy of Arts, and he has just delivered a wonderful speech. Thanks to Mr. Xu Li, secretary of the Chinese Artists Association, for understanding and great kindness to me. Just now, we has listened the sincere speech of Mr. Zhan Jianjun, the master of Chinese oil painting, and my teacher Mr.Su Gaoli, which I will remember for long. And thanks to Mr. Xie, secretary of Hebei Provincial Art and Literary Association, for his love to me as a Hebei painter in his view of the new height of Hebei Province. There are also important people that present on the rostrum. They are Mr.Fan Di'an, Mr.Shao Dazhao, and Mr.Zhong Han from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, and my old leaders minister Zhang Zhigang, Chairman Liu Jiansheng, provincial governor Fu Shuangjian, Chairman Cong Bin and Secretary Guo Dajian, etc. For all the guests and leaders, thank you for taking your time off your busy schedule to attend the opening ceremony today. I feel so touched by your coming.

A drop of water in need, shall be returned with a spring in deed. I will always remember your great kindness to me!

Finally, I would like to express my sincere thanks to you again with a bow!
